The residential program has been in existence for 30 years. Licensed by the State of Oregon, the program houses 21 male youth aged 14 to 18 through contracts with the Oregon Youth Authority. Priority for placement goes to Clackamas County families, but youth from throughout the State are accepted.

Delinquency, school failure and family difficulties can lead to severe problems in a teenager's life. When unmanageable, placement outside the home may be necessary. The residential program helps youth and their families regain control over their problems, allowing the boys to return to their homes and communities after an average stay of seven to nine months.

The multifaceted program has several specific components integrated into a holistic treatment plan. These components include:

Residential Counseling -- Youths learn skills in cooperative living, recreation, communication, problem solving and anger management. Counselors provide group and individual counseling and lead formal and informal discussions, fostering the development of new social skills.

Family Counseling -- Masters level family counselors set goals with families and teach techniques for conflict management, decision-making and problem solving. Families may attend regular counseling sessions and to define responsibilities for each member to apply at home and in the community. Parent education, skill building and support groups augments counseling services and support.

Accredited School -- Parrott Creek's accredited alternative school, an annex of Canby High School, provides individualized attention through an education plan developed by the youth, his family and staff. Students may earn high school credits, improve basic skills through remedial classes, or prepare for the high school equivalency certificate.

Drug and Alcohol Services -- Drug and alcohol assessment, education and support groups are offered to youth and assessment and education are available to families. Problems are confronted in a setting free from the influence of drugs and alcohol, facilitating growth, accountability, and commitment to change. Referrals are made to community drug and alcohol treatment and support groups when appropriate.

Post-Residential Services -- The return to home after residential placement is one of the most critical stages of treatment. Follow up services are incorporated for several months after the return to home, providing reinforcement and continued education and support. Counselors work with families, schools and employers and assist in connecting the youth with recreation programs and other community resources. This service is available to youth leaving Parrott Creek and youth returning to Clackamas County from other facilities.

Day School -- Students who are not residents of the program may attend our school through a cooperative agreement with a school district. These students may also be eligible for other services, such as family counseling and pre-employment training.
